Kama Santra

Inspired by the ancient Indian Scripture: Kamasutra, this project discusses the finesse & sophistication of female sexuality by dint of a ‘santra’ (which means orange in Hindi).

A millennia ago, philosophies emerged in the eastern world that co-mingled spirituality with sexuality. These philosophies coupled with the western influences and the Victorian era, where women’s sexuality was often marked by discrimination, created an everlasting taboo. This taboo, for centuries, also caused the use of female genitalia as a substitute for profanity.

Despite these societal reservations, during the time it was written, the Kamasutra was cardinal because it celebrated sexuality as an essential and pleasurable aspect of life. Although the Kamasutra is not flawless, its reintroduction is paramount because of the language and aesthetics but, above all, the importance it has given to the equality of vulva owners in sexual pleasure.
